In 1990, Russian national, Alexey Malchanov began fin-swimming. By 2004, he became a world champion and record holder in freediving.

He is the deepest man in the Constant Weight discipline with a successful dive to 128m performed on just one breath. He holds 7 world records in the Dynamic With Fins discipline with a maximum depth of 250m.

In 2005 he became the co-founder and vice president of the Freediving Federation. In 2006 he became the President of AIDA Russia. Since 2007 he has also been a trainer at the Freediving Federation in Moscow, Russia.
